Ammonomicon Gun Nut

Dark Knight
The Gun Nut commands lesser Gundead with the authority of the Bullet King, and patrols the halls of the Gungeon with a mighty blade forged from pure bullets.

Gun Nuts slowly walk towards the player. They periodically strike the ground with their sword, releasing a wide 90 degree burst of bullets, along with four arrowhead shapes of extra bullets (ahead of the center of the arc, behind it, and at each end). They can only aim in the 8 compass directions.

The Gun Nut's attack emerges from the tip of its sword, which can pass from the Nut's body through small barrier walls and other obstructions before striking the ground. The Gun Nut will pause briefly before releasing an attack, and the attack is directed toward where the target was when the pause began. Thus, at close range it is possible to move out of the danger zone.

Ammonomicon Spectral Gun Nut

High-ranking Gun Nuts who continue to serve, though their armor has fallen to disrepair.

Spectral Gun Nuts behave like regular Gun Nuts, but they can fly and aim in any direction. In addition to the burst of bullets, they also fire a larger jammed bullet that explodes into non-jammed bullets in all directions upon hitting an obstacle. The jammed bullet is always aimed towards the player, but can only be shot within the width of the burst of bullets.

Ammonomicon Chain Gunner

The Chain Gunners are the remnant of a lost legion of Gun Nuts, famous for their unique weaponry.

Chain Gunners run towards the player slightly faster than a normal Gun Nut. They occasionally stop in place to pull out a large ball and chain made of bullets. They then swing these chains around them at roughly three revolutions per second for a couple of seconds while slowly moving towards the player before putting them away again and chasing the player as normal. The Chain Gunner's chain can swing through obstacles, including walls.

Since the Advanced Gungeons & Draguns Update, if a Chain Gunner is the only enemy left in the room, his eyes and the end of the ball and chain will start flashing, and will detach and fly towards the player after a few seconds of swinging. The projectile comes from wherever the chain end happens to be at that instant, so it may fly opposite the chain's movement. Gripmasters are not counted as enemies if present and the Chaingunner's ball will de-attach regardless of their presence. However, during the first few runs this will not happen, and they will simply swing their ball and chain.

  • The Gun Nut's name is possibly a reference to real life gun nuts in American gun culture, which term refers to firearms enthusiasts who are deeply involved with the gun culture.
  • The Gun Nut's name may allude to the Darknut from The Legend of Zelda series, a similarly heavily armored and oddly named enemy. The name Darknut was an error by the Japanese translation team; the original word intended was "Knight", not "Nut". The error became popular and has stuck ever since.
    • Similarly, the Chain Gunner references the Ball and Chain Soldier from games such as A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. The quote "Weak, Link" references the game's protagonist. This is also why they appear as the sole enemies in the throne room of the Bullet's past, which is another A Link to the Past reference.
      • Furthermore, the name of the Chain Gunner is likely a reference to the Heavy Weapons Dude from Doom 2, which was nicknamed the Chaingunner by the fans.
  • The Chain Gunner's chain can be destroyed by Blasphemy, but returns when it completes a full rotation.
  • A Chain Gunner will still throw its ball and chain if a Keybullet Kin is the only enemy left.
